Homemade limoncello wedding favours

We love the idea of adding a personal touch to your wedding favours. After all, your guests probably put a bit of effort into attending your wedding! So, here’s a fun way to show your thanks.

Limoncello is an Italian, lemon-flavoured liqueur. You can find this liqueur at Italian restaurants as they occasionally served it as an aperitif. It’s delicious, fun and a great gift that your guests can use.

To give them a simple but effective gift that’s bound to be a great hit, follow our recipe below:

Ingredients
(Serves 34 – though the recipe can be scaled up)

  • 10 lemons
  • 1 litre vodka
  • 600g caster sugar
  • 1 litre water

Method

  1. Zest the lemons and place zest into a large glass bottle or jug. Pour in vodka. Cover loosely and leave to infuse for 1 week at room temperature.
  2. After 1 week, combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan and bring to the boil. DO NOT STIR. Allow to boil for about 15 minutes then allow syrup to cool to room temperature.
  3. Stir the vodka mixture into the syrup then strain into glass bottles and seal each bottle with a cork (or in a mini mason jar). Allow the mixture to age at room temperature for a minimum of 4 weeks.
  4. Place bottled liqueur in the freezer – served chilled if possible.

Limoncello is a liquor with a relatively high alcohol content. Accordingly, it can age, unopened, for years with little to no degradation in quality, so this may be a lovely keepsake for your wedding guests to keep hold of for years to come.
